THE BRIEF

Period Property Transformation

The client purchased this three-storey Victorian townhouse in Clifton with a vision to restore its original character while bringing it firmly into the modern era. The property had been poorly maintained for decades — outdated electrics, tired interiors, and a layout that didn’t make the most of the generous floor plan.

The brief was clear: strip it back to the bones, preserve what was worth keeping, and rebuild it to a high standard that honoured the original architecture.

THE CHALLENGE

Restoring what mattered, without losing character

Victorian properties of this era present a particular set of challenges. Original cornicing, skirting profiles, and joinery details are often damaged or missing entirely after years of DIY alterations. The goal was to repair what survived and faithfully reinstate what had been lost.

Alongside the cosmetic work, the entire property required a full re-wire, new plumbing stack, and updated central heating — all installed without compromising the period fabric of the building.

THE SOLUTION

A complete rebuild, delivered to the finest detail

Every room was stripped back and rebuilt from scratch. Period cornicing was repaired using traditional lime plaster profiles, and new bespoke joinery — skirtings, architraves, and window boards — was manufactured to match the original sections found in the property.

The kitchen and dining area were opened up into a single flowing space with a new structural steel, while both bathrooms were redesigned with premium tiling, underfloor heating, and freestanding sanitaryware. Throughout, a neutral palette was chosen to let the restored architectural details take centre stage.
